Why Are You Here?

Welcome to the Wench's World--the Wolverine State Brewing Company (A2) Beer Wench to be exact. If you've stumbled upon me, cool. If you've entered through the Wolverinbeer.com site, be warned! This is where the part owner/marketing and sales director of a craft microborewery Has Her Say! It may or may not be directly related to the company but it sure will be fun and many times profane as the circumstances warrant! Enjoy (or not) at your own risk!

Lucius Lair Anyone?--OR I Love My Elected Officials

It Is Official.

We are a "go" with our Tap Room and brewery expansion plans...well, we are a "go" as in "Yes you can do that without adding sprinklers now bring us the drawings so we can officially peruse it at our leisure."

But if you are a good follower of My lowly blog-i-verse, you realize how crucial these baby steps are in the process.  And so we embark upon a new chapter, one filled with new drains, a grain room, more storage, bigger bathrooms (and the people said AMEN), and .... The officially as yet unnamed Wolverine Rental Hall.

I am officially taking naming ideas now.

So far I have:
Lucious' Lair
Legends Hall
The Official We Love Brady Hoke Room (home of the Brady Hoke Fan Grrrls and Boyz Club)

Whattya got?

In the meantime, this week brings grey skies, boring weather (poor Michigan weathermen are gonna start making shit up if we don't get some Snowy Armageddon's or something similar soon), yet more illness in the Casa de Wench (don't ask) and the pursuit of interpersonal communication perfection that I seek, daily.

I know the Howell Beer Geek will be in the Tap Room Saturday but there are no football games on for a while although the soccer leagues are ramping up overseas so you KNOW that makes this a happy Wench.

If you see any or all of us scurrying around the place with worry on our brows and tape measure in our hands, my advice is to stay out of the way for the time being, sit down, relax, have a beer, and watch the magic (or....the chaos) unfold over the next few months!

Hi all.
I made a honey ale this weekend,
9 lb pale malt
1 lb honey
8 oz Honey malt
4 oz carapils malt
1 oz Willamette: 75% boil, 25% finish
1 oz cascade: 75% boil, 25% finish
ale yeast (nottingham)

All went well, though my target og was 1.056 and I hit 1.050 which is probably close enough.

I have some questions about how much water do you all use? Are we talking us gallons or imperial gallons.
The beer store that I bought my ingredients from gave me a recipe to follow that was obviously for imperial gallons cause it called for my plastic fermentor to be filled to the 23 litre mark.
I used beersmith for my calculations and it was calling for 19L. Is this why my og is lower than it should've been?
My primary is 30L, my glass carboy is 23L.
I guess thats why i've been ending up with more beer than my kegs will hold? (corneys)

I've been looking at the plastic carboys from better bottle, they look pretty good. These look like they will make good primarys, especially with the rotating drain tube at the bottom with the racking valve version. I see that alot of people here only use a primary and skip the secondary all together. What are the pros and cons of each? Does the transfer to the secondary just help to clarify the beer better and to remove more sediment?
